Raised Garden Beds and Retaining Walls
When designing a landscaping plan for your front lawn a great option is to build raised garden beds. Raised garden beds are a great way to add depth and definition to your lawn while increasing the curb appeal of your property.
Raised garden beds are built using retaining walls that support soil laterally which will prevent it from sloping down in its natural state. These can be built as high as two feet or as small two inches depending on your design.
There are many aesthetic benefits to raised garden beds, but there are also many practical benefits as well. In many ways, the flowers and plants grown in a raised garden bed are easier to manage. Because the soil is isolated it is easier to maintain and to keep healthy. Due to the higher elevation pest issues are more visible to the gardener and can be addressed faster.
Raised garden beds due require more water as the sides of the soil are more exposed. It is important that an irrigation system is considered in your design and a proper drainage system is developed.
